The Origin of Intractable Problems

The word intractable means, something that stubbornly resists a solution. It comes from the Latin “intractabilis,” which combines “in-” meaning “not” and “tractabilis,” meaning “manageable” or “able to be handled.” It has been used in English since the late 15th century.

The most intractable problem of humanity is our inability to get along with each other.

In my opinion, the origin of all intractable human problems is human consciousness and how we define it. If you interviewed people on the street and said, “consciousness comes from the brain,” nine out of every ten people would probably agree.

Defining consciousness as materially based has caused the human race to be confused about who it is for millennia. History reflects this confusion in constant conflict.

Quantitative vs. qualitative

What consciousness is, has to do with the difference between qualitative and quantitative.

Quantitative has to do with things, and the measurement of those things. “How tall is that tree?” “How many gizmos does it take to make a widget?” “What is the necessary tensile strength of the materials used to build a bridge?”  All of these things are quantities that can be measured. In engineering and science, there is often only one answer, or a range of values, that guarantee success.

Qualitative, on the other hand, has to do with the quality, or character, or essence of something. Qualitative refers to an attribute that is above and beyond the things of the physical universe.

Humanity has a millennia-long history of conflict and killing because it continues to describe human consciousness quantitatively.

Material things and systems are easily quantifiable. “That new material scored high on the stress test.” “The download speed on my internet connection is 320 megabits per second.” “Our company manufactured 100 widgets today.”

Consciousness is qualitative. We say, “That person is always cheerful.” “He is very intuitive.” “She is perceptive.” “Joe has integrity.” “Carla has a good character.”

A quality cannot easily be measured because it is an ephemeral attribute that describes an aspect of consciousness. A quality cannot be assigned a variable in a computer program, for example, for it is something that cannot be easily described. How do you define integrity, or character? Or cheerfulness? Or beauty?

These are qualities and their origin lies within consciousness itself.

Consciousness is, inherently, outside the purview of the physical universe. Consciousness is that which decides, or considers, or assigns value to the things in the physical universe.

There are many examples of characteristics that apply to consciousness and not to material things.

So why do scientists, doctors, psychologists, psychiatrists, and mass media define consciousness in material terms? Because that’s what they are taught. This misdefinition leads to terrible confusion for everyone about the most fundamental questions of life: “Who are you?” And, “What happens after you take your last breath?”

The answer to the latter question is frightening for those who believe in the quantitative definition of consciousness. The answer is, your awareness is snuffed out forever.

The new world technocracy

Amongst the “expert” classes there is fantastic and fanatical resistance to the very simple idea that a human being is a spiritual personality temporarily associated with a human body.

It is a grave error to describe something qualitative as quantifiable because it severely limits the human spirit and degrades human beings as a species. That leaves researchers in a bind because a good investigator needs data. But the only data that truly describes consciousness – qualitative data – is not definable or computable.

But that doesn’t stop the technocrats. The Global Governance system is now being implemented at international organizations like the UN, the WHO, the WEF, GAVI,  the various public and private pharmaceutical networks, and many of the world’s governments – including our own – who see massive benefit in a quantitative system that can manage large populations.

In order to “manage” individuals, the technocrats cannot treat human beings as persons with inalienable rights. For these folks, a human being is just a ledger entry with values. Voters and elections, in this system, are obsolete. Human beings are quantified.

“The Global Governance matrix optimizes for stability, but humanity isn’t stable. We love people who are liabilities. We’re entertained by people who flirt with danger — real or imagined. We pursue meaning that has no monetary value. We insist on freedom that creates risk. From the matrix perspective, humanity is irrational — humanity is the prime problem to be solved.”

The world we live in today – a mess of conflict, hatred, and confusion – is the result of mis-identifying what consciousness is.

Because consciousness is inherently qualitative it cannot be accurately described by science, the scientific method, or by any technocratic process that is quantitative. The Global Governance system will ultimately be a massive failure, as long as there are enough human beings who understand their qualitative nature.

So what is consciousness then?

Even guys like Eckhart Tolle, Sadhguru, and Sri Nisargadatta Maharaj have a hard time describing what consciousness is, using language. Sri Nisargadatta Maharaj’s book, I am That, is a masterpiece and I have had many profound realizations from it. My edition has 464 pages. In it the Master answers essentially the same questions with essentially the same answers, using different and very clever examples. It is clear that Nisargadatta Maharaj found something, a profound understanding, that is intensely personal and that people could feel radiating off this humble shopkeeper. But even Nisargadatta Maharaj could not entirely explain what consciousness is to the satisfaction of his listeners.

This presents a conundrum: In order to advance, our species must recognize that the human spirit is quintessentially non-physical, a divine aspect of the Creative Source. When that occurs for enough persons, a tipping point will be reached.

All civilizations in this galaxy have faced that dilemma at some point in their development. Some make it, some don’t. We are at the crossroads now, today, at this moment.

Consciousness is ultimately non-physical. People aren’t their bodies. People aren’t meat. People aren’t quantifiable.

The consciousness shift

The failure to properly define consciousness, I believe, is not deliberate or evil. This idea is captured in the phrase, “Never assign to malice that which can adequately be explained by stupidity.”

Well, maybe not stupidity, but a lack of awareness. Fortunately that is changing.

I have asserted over and over in these essays that humanity is undergoing a massive consciousness shift. But what does that really mean?

It means that the collective awareness of humanity about itself is increasing. It means, as well, that individuals are discovering more about themselves, both good and bad. The good and the bad are being acted out on the Gameboard of Earth as humanity tries to find itself.

We are seeing on our screens a grand movie about human consciousness that is the culmination, or the denouement, of human activity and karma over the past 200,000 years. Since homo sapiens came out of the caves.

Does this movie have a happy ending?

I believe it does. To believe otherwise is to fall in with the Global Governance crowd and create a dystopian future.

Postscript

I am not religious, but I’ll leave you with this great quote from the Bible that I found in one of the MKULTRA memoirs I mentioned in my last post:

“For there is nothing covered up that will not be revealed; or hidden that shall not be known. Therefore whatsoever ye have spoken in darkness shall be heard in the light; and that which ye have whispered in private rooms shall be proclaimed upon the housetops.”

— Luke 12: 2-3
