Ken has often remarked on this show that the majority of the population is under the fat part of the Gaussian normal distribution, or informally called the Bell curve.
If you look up the definition of “normal distribution” on Google, you will be directed to a number of images that show this graph. The one we are looking at is on Wikipedia, in the paper “Normal Distribution,” and if you ignore the equations and scroll down to the header “Standard Deviation and tolerance intervals,” you will see a graph marked off into dark blue, blue, and light blue intervals. The reason this normal distribution curve is called a Bell curve is that it looks a little like a bell without the little plunger hanging down. What Ken always talks about is the “fat” part of the curve, or the number of people contained within one standard deviation. Now Ken sometimes refers dismissively to the people under in the fat part of the curve in pejorative terms; with just a little condescension. We laugh because Ken thinks he is somewhere on the left or right end of this curve, and that somehow makes him “better” than everyone else. Or, as Ken would say, “beyond the commonplace,” as if every single human being on the planet were not already uncommon just by being born on the planet earth.
Ken sometimes thinks of the people under the fat part of the curve as having little self-awareness, and superficial, just going through life thinking that they are only here for 80 years and then they are dead. Well, we would like to say a few things about that not only to Ken, but also to the audience.
You see, the normal distribution is a reflection of a much more universal principle. A normal distribution is a very important statistical data distribution pattern occurring in many natural phenomena, such as height, blood pressure, the lengths of objects produced by machines, grades given to students on an exam, and many other observable things we see in the physical universe. The Bell curve reflects balance.
Everything in the natural world is in balance. You couldn’t live on the planet, for example, if all of the various ecosystems didn’t co-exist harmoniously together. You often remark about how bad or volatile the weather is, but if you knew the complexity and the harmony that must be in place for this beautiful planet, and the life on it, to live and breathe, you would be absolutely amazed. The amount of well-being present is simply astonishing for any planet that supports life, but particularly so for this one. The fact is that the human race has no clue whatsoever of how lucky it is, and on the factors that exist to maintain life on earth. The activities of the human race have an infinitesimal effect on the balance of life here, despite those who choose to frighten humanity about the effects of their presence on earth.
Now, we say this because we want to make a point: that the entire reason for the existence of humanity on the earth is, essentially, companionship. In the 1970s James Lovelock proposed the Gaia theory, that the earth was alive. But a complex living organism like a planet requires company. In other words, a planet exists solely to SUPPORT life. There isn’t a planet in the solar system, or in your galaxy, that doesn’t support life of some kind.
Let’s look a little at the Gaia Hypothesis. Wikipedia says, “The Gaia hypothesis, also known as Gaia theory or Gaia principle, proposes that organisms interact with their inorganic surroundings on Earth to form a self-regulating, complex system that contributes to maintaining the conditions for life on the planet.…The biosphere and the evolution of life forms affect the stability of global temperature, ocean salinity, oxygen in the atmosphere and other environmental variables that affect the habitability of Earth.”
Even the conservative Wikipedia, and mainstream science, support the idea that the earth isn’t just a rock composed of inorganic materials. But things get even more interesting when we read the words of James Lovelock himself:
“Most of us sense that the Earth is more than a sphere of rock with a thin layer of air, ocean and life covering the surface. We feel that we belong here as if this planet were indeed our home. Long ago the Greeks, thinking this way, gave to the Earth the name Gaia or, for short, Ge. In those days, science and theology were one and science, although less precise, had soul. As time passed this warm relationship faded and was replaced by the frigidity of the schoolmen. The life sciences, no longer concerned with life, fell to classifying dead things and even to vivisection. Ge was stolen from theology to become no more the root from which the disciplines of geography and geology were named. Now at last there are signs of a change. Science becomes holistic again and rediscovers soul, and theology, moved by ecumenical forces, begins to realise that Gaia is not to be subdivided for academic convenience and that Ge is much more than just a prefix.
“We now see that the air, the ocean and the soil are much more than a mere environment for life; they are a part of life itself. Thus the air is to life just as is the fur to a cat or the nest for a bird. Not living but something made by living things to protect against an otherwise hostile world. For life on Earth the air is our protection against the cold depths and fierce radiations of space.
“An entity comprising a whole planet and with a powerful capacity to regulate the climate needs a name to match. It was the novelist William Golding who proposed the name Gaia. Gladly we accepted his suggestion and Gaia is also the name of the hypothesis of science which postulates that the climate and the composition of the Earth always are close to an optimum for whatever life inhabits it.
“If we are "all creatures great and small," from bacteria to whales, part of Gaia then we are all of us potentially important to her well being. We knew in our hearts that the destruction of a whole range of other species was wrong but now we know why. No longer can we merely regret the passing of one of the great whales, or the blue butterfly, nor even the smallpox virus. When we eliminate one of these from Earth, we may have destroyed a part of ourselves, for we also are a part of Gaia.
“There are many possibilities for comfort as there are for dismay in contemplating the consequences of our membership in this great commonwealth of living things. It may be that one role we play is as the senses and nervous system for Gaia. Through our eyes she has for the first time seen her very fair face and in our minds become aware of herself. We do indeed belong here. The earth is more than just a home, it's a living system and we are part of it.”
Now these words are very important and profound. We’ve seen above that the biosphere and the evolution of organisms affect the earth herself. Even mainstream scientists can see that! But the acceptance of the idea that the earth is living, is alive, began to turn around the thinking of people. In other words, what we are trying to get at (from yet another angle!) is the idea that life affects the entire planetary system and everything upon it, organic and inorganic.
And what is life? You see, we have been saying for years that the correct definition of consciousness is so vitally important. Life is spirit + body. When the human race understands this simple equation, and understands that consciousness, and the thoughts, desires, and activities of consciousness have a real effect on the ecosystems and the life forms on the planet, humanity will be able to advance past the adolescent stage.
You can see that if a dominant species like humanity considers itself to be mere biological constructs, there is really no incentive to evolve past the basics: get some food, get some shelter, grab hold of as many resources as you can. We want to say that the evolution of the human race to the current technological society has proceeded in proportion to the human race’s understanding of itself as consciousness.
In other words, you have evolved in understanding and in material comfort to the precise degree that you have become more aware as a species on the fourth level of consciousness. This is really a remarkable statement because it says that to the degree you understand what consciousness is (to the degree you know who you are) you advance not only spiritually but materially.
Right now the human race is on the cusp of a breakthrough into true 4th level consciousness, or the understanding that it is living on a very complex organism and that the belief systems of mankind do indeed have an effect on the planet. This is what we have been saying over and over for years. But we have thrown in the idea that spiritual advancement precedes material advancement. Many of the great discoveries of science were preceded by an intuitive leap of understanding. Einstein himself said that “The intuitive mind is a sacred gift and the rational mind is a faithful servant. We have created a society that honors the servant and has forgotten the gift.” Einstein also said, “The only real valuable thing is intuition.”
Many, many people throughout history have understood this. But the difference today is the number of people who understand it! Interestingly, the population growth to 7 billion humans has made it possible for an “intuitive spark” to be generated. In other words, with so many on the planet connected in a sort of electronic neural network, it is now possible to “spontaneously combust” to a new level of understanding, a sort of “hundredth monkey” phenomenon that could more accurately be called the “millionth monkey” or the “billionth monkey.”
And this is where the Bell curve, or normal distribution, comes in. You see, evolution works “behind the scenes,” as it were. There is a slow growth, a gradual buildup, until the threshold is reached, and a new species or a new mutation evolves. But, and this is important, the slow growth buildup comes almost entirely from changing belief systems. In other words, it is the changing thoughts/beliefs/programming behind or associated with the organism or the species that drives the physical evolutionary growth. This is a sort of meta-phenomenon.
Meta (from the Greek preposition μετά = "after", "beyond", "adjacent", "self." Wikipedia says, “In epistemology, the prefix meta- is used to mean about (its own category). For example, metadata are data about data (who has produced them, when, what format the data are in and so on). In a database, metadata are also data about data stored in a data dictionary and describes information (data) about database tables such as the table name, table owner, details about columns, – essentially describing the table itself. Also, [this] has given rise to concepts like "meta-cognition" (i.e. cognition about cognition), "meta-emotion" (i.e. emotion about emotion), "meta-discussion" (i.e. discussion about discussion), … and "metaprogramming" (i.e. writing programs that manipulate programs.”
“Any subject can be said to have a meta-theory, a theoretical consideration of its properties, such as its foundations, methods, form and utility, on a higher level of abstractness. In linguistics, a grammar is considered as being expressed in a metalanguage, language that operates on a higher level in order to describe properties of the plain language (and not itself).”
So we are describing here something that is senior to the physical creation, whether that be a database, a language, or a human being. It is a set of information that basically describes the object or the thing – an information system. And the meta-phenomenon that creates the information system itself is: consciousness, self-awareness!
Here is where the fat part of the Bell curve comes in. If you look at the graph you see that a little over 34% of the graph is on either side of the middle, for a total of 68%. This normal distribution says that here is where there is the most agreement, the most common features of a system or a population. But it is also where the most well-being is. So Ken’s lumping of people in the middle as “commonplace” is way off the mark. Without the 68% holding down the fort, as it were, there would be much more instability. You can see this in a population in times of stress or in times of war: the middle gets thrown off base, and the society itself begins to wobble. This often presages a quantum evolutionary advance to a slightly, or majorly, higher state. The two World Wars of the 20th century propelled humanity to look broadly across the world, and get the idea that human beings are connected, even if they live on the other side of the world.
Now this acts not only as a stabilizing force, but also, as Ken thinks, somewhat like a resistor in a circuit. A resistor slows down the force of the current, surely, but just as surely, a circuitboard cannot function without them. Resistors act as stabilizers and as modulators, enhancing the function of the whole. And so does the fat part of the Bell curve! We are telling Ken here that he had better be grateful for all of those “commonplace” people out there, because they are acting as modulators of the vibrational growth that is occurring, just as resistors modulate, at appropriate places, the flow of electricity in the circuitboard. This is actually a good analogy because electricity is energy, just as thought is energy.
We have described a subtle, holographic planetary field that contains the information systems that guide the evolution of humanity and of Gaia. Sitting in this planetary field, as we have said before, are “higher” physical laws that will allow you to advance beyond your materialistic science. In order for this to occur, however, there must be an advance in awareness. This happens on the level of thought; the mental plane, and is the purview of consciousness. Again, everything comes back to this meta-concept: that there is a level of abstraction beyond the physical, beyond thought even, that is driving the system. And that meta-concept is consciousness: something non-physical that yet has the ability to influence the physical.
And so now, Ken, you understand why things do not advance as quickly as you would like. It is because the resistors in the system are properly modulating and regulating the energy so as to make a smooth transition to a higher state of evolution. This is the way it was designed, and this is the way you all would want it. Nobody wants society to fall apart and have chaos reign! This is how advancement has occurred in the past: a breakdown of society forcing change. The idea of the internet and mobile messaging is to have change happen spontaneously, with the broad agreement of literally billions. The fat part of the Bell curve is regulating that advancement just fine.
If you think about this concept for a little while, you will begin to get very excited! We’ve been saying over and over that the vibrational resonance is gradually getting stronger and stronger. The development of science has been a very positive driver for the evolutionary leap, itself driven by the increase in self-awareness of the collective.
The unfortunate side-effects of science (pollution, the atomic bomb, etc.) are just the remnants of the old belief systems that have not yet been transcended. But this was inevitable! We have said over and over that you cannot wave a magic wand, think a thought, and reach the new level at the fourth level of consciousness. You have to actually work through the old belief systems. The new information system arrives by understanding the old one, and consciously modifying it. This is what happens every day in the IT sections of your businesses: computer programmers look over the old code, or the programming platform, and design new and better systems. The idea of new and better is the primary motivation of life: the creation of something better, with more well-being in it.
Now certainly the major discoveries are made by the guys way on the left and the right side of the normal distribution, but without the guys in the middle to create the stability and “hold the fort,” the outliers don’t have a chance of succeeding.
And so, of course, the outliers and the “commonplace” people all work together to create a steady advance in evolution.
Now, where evolution breaks down is when the collective misuses information. That is what happened in a previous civilization on earth. But notice that life always regroups and starts over, because life is well-being and well-being always looks for better and more enjoyable systems, more and better ways to create. So don’t knock the resistors in the system: they have a valuable function, and prevent the system from moving too quickly down an evolutionary path that might not be the best way to go.
Remember that you are in it together, and together you can make a new civilization, if you will just continue along the path of well-being and understanding.
