The CDC used to be a trusted medical agency<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

Biological men who transition to women can produce breastmilk by taking several hormone drugs that mimic the changes a woman’s body undergoes during the late stages of pregnancy and shortly after the birth of a child.<\/p>

But one of the drugs used can pass into breast milk in small amounts and can sometimes give babies an irregular heartbeat as a result.<\/p>

The FDA has warned against one of them; domperidone \u2014 an anti-nausea drug that ups levels of prolactin, the hormone which encourages milk production.<\/p>

The agency said<\/a>: ‘Because of the possibility of serious adverse effects, FDA recommends that breastfeeding women not use domperidone to increase milk production.’<\/p>

Dr Jane Orient, executive director of the conservative Association of American Physicians and Surgeons, told DailyMail.com that ‘we have no idea what the long-term effects on the child will be’ if a breastfeeding trans woman uses ‘all kinds of off-label hormones.’<\/p>

She said: ‘A lot of people are pushing for off-label use of a drug… it’s become so politicized that you can do all kinds of things for a politically approved purpose.’<\/p>

Off-label means using a drug for a different purpose than the one it has been approved for. Some medications required to induce lactation in trans women are not approved for boosting milk production in America.<\/p>
